The Project
I worked with Purvi Shah Interiors, a full-service boutique design studio known for creating highly personalised, elegant, and flexible spaces, to document an apartment in one of Mumbai's most sought-after neighbourhoods.
The home belonged to a two-generation family who had lived in the space for forty years, and the design approach was thoughtful, cohesive, and simple, honouring that history rather than erasing it.
Beautiful natural light streamed in throughout the day, framed by sweeping city views, and the space's most distinctive detail was a tiny balcony, preserved along with its original flooring from the old apartment, a small but powerful thread connecting the home's past to its present.
The Brief
This shoot was documentation, but it carried real emotional weight. The apartment was Purvi's own family residence, a space she had poured personal care and intention into, layering in unique styling elements that elevated it well beyond a standard interior project. The brief was simply to do justice to that care in the final images.
The Approach
I leaned heavily on vertical compositions to build depth throughout the space, using techniques like frame-within-a-frame to break up the apartment visually and give each image a sense of layered dimension.
Working alongside stylist Shraddha Naik made the process notably smoother, with the space thoughtfully set before I even walked in, which let the shoot move seamlessly from room to room.
