About the Project
I worked with Walls and Things, a studio known for a signature style of contemporary elegance with a touch of eclecticism, alongside stylist Janavi Jhaveri, to document the full ground floor renovation of a stunning art deco hotel in Mumbai.
For a city hotel, the space struck a rare balance: opulent and grand, yet layered with quiet nooks to escape into.
What made it truly distinctive was how seamlessly a contemporary design language had been housed within the bones of a historic art deco building.
The Brief
The brief was to document the space, with particular emphasis on its styling elements. Since the hotel remained fully functional throughout the shoot, timing required real flexibility.
A large party checking out at intervals through the day meant pausing the shoot repeatedly, waiting for guests to clear the space before resuming.
The Approach
The space was naturally light-filled, but rather than relying on daylight alone, I layered in the hotel's rich indoor lighting alongside my own to strike a careful balance across all three sources. As a central, high-traffic hotel space, it was essential that the richness of the fabrics and styling details came through fully, something only achievable through that layered lighting approach.
