About the Project
I worked with Divya Sheth Design Studio, a Mumbai-based interior design studio focused on transforming spaces with thoughtful, personalised design, to document the office detailing at the Falcon Dates factory in New Bombay.
The shoot captured two distinct office flows within the same building: a lower floor housing the admin team, an open-plan, utilitarian space with clean lines built for focused, distraction-free work, and an upper floor home to the founder's office, one of the calmest spaces I've photographed, remarkably at odds with the flurry of dispatches and trucks operating just outside its windows.
Connecting both levels was the space's true centerpiece, a two-storey mandir visible from nearly every point in the office, serving as a quiet, unifying anchor between the two floors.
The Brief
The brief was to document the space with particular emphasis on materials and how such a sense of calm had been achieved within an active factory environment.
Shooting in a high-traffic space came with real logistical challenges. The lower floor saw continuous movement throughout the day, and despite requesting the space be cleaned the day before, it needed cleaning again by the time we arrived. On the shoot day itself, an unexpected large dispatch meant reworking the entire schedule, starting upstairs in the founder's office and holding off on the lower floor until the dispatch and the area visible through its windows had cleared.
The Approach
Given the scale of the space, rather than treating each area as a series of isolated shots, I composed images to reflect the synergy between the two floors, deliberately letting elements of the adjacent space appear within each frame. The result is a set of images where the mandir, the flow between floors, and the relationship between calm and industry come through as one connected story rather than a collection of separate rooms.
