About the Project
Purvi Shah Interiors is a full service boutique design studio known for creating highly personalized, elegant, and flexible spaces that balance practical functionality with timeless visual appeal.
They designed a Mumbai residence that brought together a variety of distinct design styles within a single home. The balcony has a relaxed boho character, while the living and dining areas take a distinctly modern approach.
What makes the residence particularly distinctive is its setting. One entire side of the home opens onto an expansive view of the water, while the other looks across the city. The interiors were designed to preserve these views, keeping the visual connection to the city and bay as open as possible.
The Brief
The brief was to document the residence through a considered set of interior photographs. With limited time available on the shoot day, the challenge was to work efficiently and be intentional about the photographs selected. The aim was to make the most of the available shooting time while capturing the character, scale, and defining features of each space.
The Approach
Before beginning the final shoot, I conducted a quick walkthrough of the residence and captured a broad range of photographs. These were reviewed on a laptop to help determine the strongest final angles for each space.
The photography was structured to establish the spaces before moving into more detailed views. Each room was approached with a few horizontal establishing photographs to communicate the overall scale, followed by vertical compositions and detail shots that highlighted specific elements of the interiors.
Despite the abundant natural light entering the apartment, the scale of the residence meant that additional lighting was required. I supplemented the existing light in each photograph, carefully balancing the artificial and natural light so that they blended seamlessly within the space.
