About the Project
I worked with Divya Sheth Design Studio, a Mumbai-based interior architecture and styling firm focused on spatial psychology and bespoke residential and commercial spaces, on a duplex perched high on Altamount Road with sweeping views of the bay.
I was brought on specifically by them to document the styling elements of the space, textiles, soft furnishings, and the careful use of colour and material to bring a sense of everyday luxury into every corner. One space in particular stood out: the bathroom, typically the most utilitarian room in a home, transformed here through texture and textile choices into something genuinely striking.
The Brief
The brief was to document the space with a clear stylistic focus. This wasn't a shoot built around large establishing angles to set the tone of the whole space. Instead, it called for a closer, more intimate approach, one that zoomed into detail and used lighting deliberately to bring out the richness of the colours and textures throughout.
The Approach
This project demanded careful preplanning. I did a recce ahead of the shoot, met with the design team, and mapped out the full shoot in advance, sketching out specific angles that needed extra thought so there were no surprises on the day.
In most rooms, I supplemented the available natural light with flash to separate individual elements within the frame and give the textiles and furnishings the depth and dimension they needed to stand out. Because the shoot was commissioned by the stylist rather than the interior designer, I was also careful to keep the focus tightly on styling and soft furnishings, rather than the broader architectural or design elements of the space.
