About the Project
I worked with Open Door Designs, a studio specialising in highly personalised, luxury, and sustainable residential spaces, to document a minimal, neutral apartment defined by texture and considered form. Perched high above the city, the home was washed in soft, natural light throughout, with expansive views that became part of the space's character.
The living room stood out in particular for its striking ceiling details, adding a strong architectural focal point to an otherwise pared-back palette.
The Brief
The brief from the client was to capture the space with a specific feeling - quiet luxury. The goal was to let the space speak through restraint, its textures, proportions, and light, rather than anything overt or ornamental.
The Approach
I shot primarily in vertical compositions to do justice to both the ceiling detail and the distinctive flooring, letting the height and texture of the space carry through the frame. Because the apartment was so beautifully lit for most of the day, timing was only a real consideration in the living room; elsewhere, the natural light did the work for me.
A swing in the space became a recurring detail I made a point of incorporating into as many shots as possible, giving the images a soft, lived-in warmth. The shoot itself was refreshingly straightforward, it took place before the family had moved in, so there was no wear and tear to manage and no timing constraints beyond the living room's light.
