About the Client
P.F. Chang's is a globally recognised Asian-inspired dining brand with restaurants across the world, known for pairing bold, contemporary design with a consistently elevated guest experience. This Khar location marked one of their first outlets in Mumbai, making the pre-opening shoot an important first introduction of the brand to the city.
Ahead of its launch, P.F. Chang's brought me on to shoot a pre-opening photoshoot for their new Khar location, capturing the space for use across marketing material and social media promotion.
The Brief
The brief was to reflect the brand's quintessential identity, bold, contemporary interiors anchored by their signature red accents, set within a space that stood out for its striking arches and prime position in Khar, one of Mumbai's most sought-after addresses. This gave the restaurant a strong architectural presence to work with from the outset, and the client's priority was clear: the space needed to be shown in all its glory, photographed to look like a fully functional, ready-to-open restaurant, even ahead of launch.
The main creative challenge came from timing. Last-minute snagging and repairs were still underway mid-shoot, which meant staying flexible and adapting the shoot plan on the spot to work around ongoing site work while still delivering polished, launch-ready imagery.
The Approach
Because P.F. Chang's operates as a global brand, my approach started with research. I began by studying how the restaurant had been photographed at other locations around the world to understand their visual language. This meant closely following their established brand standards, from the specific elements included in each frame to their preferred compositions and angles.
With those guidelines in hand, I shaped the shoot to align with them, ensuring the final images would sit seamlessly within P.F. Chang's existing global library of restaurant photography, on-brand, cohesive, and consistent with how the brand presents its spaces internationally.
